- NOTRE ENGAGEMENT
What Is the Veterans Independence Program (VIP) and How Does It Help Veterans?
The Veterans Independence Program is a VAC-funded support program. It is designed to help veterans remain independent in their own homes. Through VIP, eligible veterans receive financial assistance for home care services like housekeeping, personal care, and nutrition support.
VIP benefits cover a wide range of daily living needs. These include meal preparation, transportation to appointments, and home adaptations. The goal is simple — help veterans stay at home safely, for as long as possible.
At Freiheit Care, we are a recognized care provider under this program. We work directly with Veterans Affairs Canada to make sure every veteran receives the support services they need. If you’re unsure about eligibility, our team can walk you through the process step by step.

In-Home Care Services for Veterans We Provide
- Our Services
Every veteran’s health needs are different. That’s why our care services are not one-size-fits-all. We build a personalized care plan based on what each veteran actually needs — nothing more, nothing less.
Personal Care and Daily Living Support
Our caregivers help veterans with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility. These personal care services protect dignity while keeping veterans safe at home. We also provide medication reminders and assistance with daily activities like eating and toileting.
Companion Care and Friendly Visiting
Senior isolation is a real problem for many veterans. Our companionship program pairs each veteran with a consistent caregiver who provides friendly visiting, conversation, and structured activities. It's not just about safety. It's about connection.
Home Help and Housekeeping
Through VAC and VIP benefits, veterans can receive help with meal prep, laundry, light housekeeping and grocery shopping. We coordinate these support services as part of a complete home care plan.
Nursing Visits and Specialized Care
For veterans with complex health needs, our registered nurses provide wound care, medication administration, chronic disease management, and post-op recovery support. Every nursing visit is supervised and documented.
- Our Simple Process
How Our Veteran Home Care Plan Works
We keep the process straightforward.

Free Consultation and Personalized Care Plan
First, we have a free consultation. We listen to the veteran's needs, review their health situation, and discuss available care options. Then, we create a personalized care plan — one that reflects actual daily needs, not assumptions.

Consistent Caregiver Matching With RN Oversight
Next, we match the veteran with a trained caregiver. Consistency matters. So the same caregiver shows up each visit. An RN oversees the entire care plan and adjusts it as needs change over time.

We Handle the VAC and Blue Cross Coordination
For VAC-funded clients, we handle the coordination with Medavie Blue Cross and Veterans Affairs Canada directly. Families don't need to chase paperwork. We take that off your plate.

Respite Care for Family Caregivers of Veterans
I still remember a daughter who called us at 11 p.m. She had been caring for her father — a Korean War veteran — for three years straight. She was exhausted. She didn’t want to let him down. But she was running on empty.
That call changed everything for their family. We stepped in with respite care so she could rest, recharge, and come back stronger. Her father received professional care from someone trained to support veterans. And she finally slept through the night.
Family caregivers carry an enormous load. Respite care gives them a break without compromising the veteran’s safety or routine. Whether it’s a few hours a week or a full weekend, we are here when families need us most.
